Child Development Center

The Child Development Center (CDC) is a weekday children's ministry of the Cabot United Methodist Church (CUMC). The CUMC-CDC has its roots in a church sponsored "Mother's Day Out" Program, which began in the early 1980's. The program grew and in the fall of 1992, the "Child Development Center" was established as a child care center, providing both part time and full time care. The CUMC-CDC is licensed by the Arkansas Dept. of Human Services (AR-DHS). We are also Arkansas Quality Accredited (we are one of 10 programs in Lonoke County that has received this designation).

To find out more about this mission of our church, visit CUMC Child Development Center.

The Cabot United Methodist Church Food Pantry is a ministry of our church which serves residents of Lonoke County who are in need of food. The food pantry is open every Tuesday and Thursday to serve the Lonoke County residents. Food Pantry volunteers pick up food at the Arkansas Rice Depot, Food Bank and area grocery stores, as well as stocking the shelves of the pantry and waiting on the clients each week. The Food Pantry also sponsors several churchwide canned food drives. "Can the Preacher" each October, "Give It Up for Lent", and "Christmas in July".

Ozark Mission Project

Ozark Mission Project has been a long time mission of the youth of Cabot United Methodist Church. Ozark Mission Project (OMP) camps are held in different locations around our state each summer. Our youth may travel to another community, stay in an area church or camp and work in that community for the week. Cabot United Methodist Church also hosts OMP camps. Campers from other communities come to our church and stay in our facilities while working in this area. Jobs include scraping and painting homes, building wheelchair ramps, home repairs, yard work and more. Many of the groups have an opportunity to get to know their "neighbor" and have an opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with them through lunchtime devotions.

Youth Ministry

Cabot United Methodist Youth are committed to leaving the door open for any to join our Christian Family. We also want everyone to know we are not ashamed! Romans 1:16. We are proud of the Good News we have in Christ and want to share His love.

Fun and fellowship are a part of our youth program, through group-building activities such as retreats, games, trips, swimming parties and much more.

Opportunities for spiritual growth are an essential element of our program, through worship, Bible study, music, devotionals, and discussing faith issues.

Service is important to our youth, with a number of opportunities for outreach to others in the church, in the community, and beyond.

Personal growth is the key to our youth program, with discussions and programs to help deal with everyday life.

These evenings are filled with God's spirit and high-energy youth, led by adults that are called to youth ministry.

Each Sunday evening the youth come together for different activities. The free time provides an opportunity for youth to be with friends, develop new friendships or just "hang out with Christian youth in a positive environment.

Confirmation begins in January. Each confirmand is assigned a mentor, who takes them through a 10 week study, learning about the United Methodist Church and making a decision to be baptized or to reaffirm their baptism. They will also worship with other churches and denominations and participate in fun outings and retreats.

Disciple Bible Study

A long-term, in-depth Bible study program. Disciple is an opportunity for life-changing spiritual development and growth. You will have the opportunity to discuss with others what God's word says and how it applies to your life today.

Disciple I: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study is a 34 week overview of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The emphasis is on how the Bible informs our understanding of discipleship.

Disciple II: Into the Word, Into the World is a 32 week study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts. The emphasis is on an active discipleship in the world.

Disciple III: Remember Who You Are is a 32 week study of the books of the prophets and the letters of Paul. The emphasis is on a committed personal study and ministry in the community.

Disciple IV: Under the Tree of Life is a 32 week study of the Writings literature in the Old Testament along with the Gospel of John and Revelation in the New Testament. The emphasis is on continued discipleship and spiritual growth along with God's promise for the future.
____________________________________________________________

Disciple I is required in order to take the other studies. After taking Disciple I, you may take the other studies in any order.

Each class meets for one two-hour session each week. Students should plan on spending about 45 minutes each day in study to prepare for each weekly session. Classes run concurrent with the school year. Cost for Disciple is $37. This fee covers the cost of the book. Due to the nature of the class and the work involved, each person will need his/her own book.

Is Disciple easy? Reasonably. Is it time consuming? Yes. But it is also transforming. The goal of Disciple is "transformation not information." By giving up one TV show per day, or getting up 30 minutes earlier, or studying during your lunch break, you can become more familiar with God's Word and its effect on you life.

Walk to Emmaus

Children's Ministry

"Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray." Proverbs 22:6

Cabot United Methodist Church is committed to providing a quality Christian Education to our many children. It is important that children know about God's love and grace at an early age. We strive to teach them and guide them along on their faith journey through our many children's programs and ministries.

The mission of the Children's department at Cabot United Methodist Church is to help the children grow in their walk with Jesus Christ and to nurture them toward discipleship. A variety of programs are available for children including Early Christian Awareness, "The Riverwalk" Sunday School, FaithWeaver Friends midweek program, Club 56, Vacation Bible School, ADVENTure, Lenten Fair, Bible Baseball, and many more.

For more information about any of the following Children's Ministry programs please contact Darlene Gates, Director of Children's Ministries: (501)843-3541.

Sunday School

Classes are available for children 2 years thru 6th grade at 9:30 a.m.

"The Riverwalk"

Sunday School for 1st - 6th grade takes on a whole new look. Using the Workshop Rotation Model, we have transformed 6 classrooms into multi-dimensional, creative workshops which teach Bible stories through drama, art, story telling, movies, music, cooking, puppetry, science, prayer, Bible study, games, mission projects and a TV newsroom. The classes rotate to new age-appropriate workshops each week of the 4 to 5 week rotation.

ECA (Early Christian Awareness)

Children learn very quickly when they are young. They are capable of absorbing much more information than we can imagine. In 1968, Clara McCord developed the Early Christian Awareness program in Corpus Chrisiti, TX. ECA is a teaching class for ages 6 mos - 36 months. CUMC joins many other churches using this non-denominational program that offers a structured learning time, supplementing quality child care in the infant/toddler ministry. ECA 1 is designed for infants 6-18 mos., and ECA 2 is designed for infants 18-36 mos.

FaithWeaver Friends & Club 56

To meet some of our FaithWeaver Friends and Club 56, click the link: vimeo.com/10096167

A Christian education opportunity for children 2 years old - 6th grade. "Friends" is held every Wednesday evening during the school year from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Children will learn to grow in their faith through Bible Study, music, crafts, puppets and much more. The Club 56 (5th and 6th graders) meet during the same time and are involved in different service projects in our church and community, as well as their own Bible Study.

Vacation Bible School

VBS is held for one week each summer with classes for all children Pre-K - 5th grade. Children through 4th grade enjoy learning Bible lessons through song, stories, crafts and other activities. Fifth graders become mission-minded for the week and are actually in service at the church and within the community. Children collect an offering each year that goes to support various mission projects, such as Heifer Project International, Open Arms Shelter and Habitat for Humanity.

Bible Baseball

All school-age children are invited to play "Bible Baseball" each spring. Study questions are mailed out a few weeks prior to the big game and spring training begins! When game time arrives, children are divided into teams by ages/grade levels and the questions are "pitched." Trophies and ribbons are awarded in each level after a night of learning God's Word, enjoying good ol' baseball food, Bible Bingo between innings and lots of good fellowship.

ADVENTure and Lenten Fair

These activities are held at the beginning of Advent and Lent to help children learn more about these special seasons. Children and their families may visit a number of booths set up in the Family Life Center gym and, through a variety of crafts and activities, learn more about Advent and Lent.

3rd Grade Bibles

Each Fall, all 3rd graders receive a Bible from CUMC and are encouraged to bring them to worship each week. Children learn to use their Bibles each week in Sunday School.

Created By God

"Created by God", a human sexuality workshop, is offered for 5th and 6th grades annually. Parents must attend a parent orientation meeting prior to the workshop.

Music Ministry

Cabot United Methodist Church is a church that enjoys a strong music program and encourages new members to consider becoming a part of this vital and important ministry. Cabot UMC has a choir for all ages. These include Riverkids Choir, Youth Choir and Chancel Choir. We also have handbells for children, youth and adults.

For more information about the following Music Ministry opportunities, please contact Chuck Massey, Director of Music Ministries, at 501-843-3541.

Riverkids Choir

During the fall and spring, Riverkids Choir gives our children an entertaining and educational opportunity to learn and perform choral music written for the young singer. They will meet Wednesday nights from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m., just prior to FaithWeaver Friends.

Youth Choir

For teens, 7th through 12th grades. This group meets each Wednesday evening from 5:15 - 6:00 p.m. during the school year. They will perform during worship services, as well as special church functions.

Youth Praise Band

Also for teens, 7th-12th grades. If you play a musical instrument or sing and enjoy praise music, we would invite you to join us on Sunday afternoons. For more information and time, contact the church office, 843-3541. This group performs during Youth RockSolid on Wednesday nights.

Agape Ringers & Celebration Ringers

If members of your family would like to ring English Handbells (no experience necessary) we have a group for you. Agape Ringers (Adults) practice Sundays 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., and Celebration Ringers (Youth) practice 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sundays. These ringers provide music for worship and special services. Openings in these groups occur periodically, and we are always in need of substitutes!

Adult Choirs

On Sunday mornings, special choral music is presented to our congregation during each of the worship services. The choirs for each service work hard to present an interesting and appropriate program of worship music. Membership in either of the worship service volunteer choirs does not require prior experience, or the ability to read music. It only requires a love of singing. The Chancel Choir (10:50 a.m. Traditional Service) rehearses Wednesdays 7:00-8:30 p.m.
