  5. Congregational Care Ministries – The Congregational Ministries Team provides ministries that support and nurture the congregation.

    • Serve on the Congregational Care Team – This team will coordinate the ministries that provide nurture and fellowship to the congregation both as a whole and as individual needs arise.
    • Meals to Shut-ins/Those in need – Provide a meal to a church family in crisis.
    • Mentor – Serve as a mentor for new members to help them become a part of the opportunities at Cabot UMC.
    • Homebound Fellowship Friend – Keep in touch with one of our homebound members on a regular basis and provide updates as needed to the pastor and office.
    • Hospital Visit – Be available to visit members in the hospital when the pastor is unavailable.
    • Card Ministry – Send notes and cards to our members who are ill, homebound or bereaved.
    • Bereavement Meals - Provide dish for bereavement meals
    • Assist with Bereavement Meals - Assist with meals at church after funerals on request
    • Communion - Take Communion to shut-ins on Sunday afternoon after Communion Worship
  6. Collection Mission Ministries – Our commitment to Missions covers many different areas. Locally, we provide a Food Pantry ministry on Tuesdays and Thursdays and work with area schools to provide school supplies. With other United Methodist Churches, we assist with items for the United Methodist Committee on Relief through Ingathering.

    • Serve on the Local Missions Team – Assist in the planning and coordinating the congregation’s participation in local missions.
    • Food Pantry – Donate food items regularly to the food pantry.
    • Food Pantry Volunteer – Work at least once a month on a Tuesday or Thursday to serve needy families.
    • Food Pantry Assistant – Be available for sorting, organizing, planning, or cleaning the food pantry.
    • School Collections – Serve on the team that assists the counseling offices in our neediest school.
    • Ingathering – Serve on the team the plans our Ingathering response this year.
    • Prison Ministry – Collect cookies for the Kairos Prison Ministry
  7. Congregational Events Ministries – The Congregational Events Ministries Team plans and coordinates events that support and nurture the congregation. The R & R team plans our Wednesday evening meals and activities. The Fellowship team plans and coordinates other church wide events such as potlucks or church picnics.

    • Serve on the Congregational R & R Team – The team coordinates our Wednesday evening meal and schedule.
    • Serve on the Congregational Fellowship Team - This team will coordinate the ministries that plan events that both engage our congregation in fellowship as a whole and engage our congregation with the community.
    • Clean-up Team – Provide clean up after a Wednesday evening meal.
  8. Volunteer Mission Ministries – Through Volunteers in Missions our church will assist with various mission projects of the United Methodist Church. These include trips to the UMCOR distribution center at Sager-Brown in Louisiana, disaster training and disaster relief, and Saturday trips to assist with camp clean-ups or church repairs. UMY plans to participate in Ozark Mission Project in the summer of 2011. Volunteers in Missions requires all volunteers to pay their expenses or raise funds within the church for all trips.

    • Serve on the Volunteer Missions Team – Assist in the planning and coordinating the congregation’s participation in volunteer missions.
    • UMCOR - Travel to Baldwin, Louisiana to help at UMCOR’s Sager Brown Distribution Center
    • Local Volunteers in Mission – Willing to help with debris clearing and yard work in our local area.
    • Disaster Preparedness - Attend training and commit to a disaster preparedness team that might be sent in to work with United Methodist Churches in times of a natural disaster.
    • Ozark Mission Project - Serve on a work team that to help with meals and hospitality when Cabot hosts teams from other Arkansas churches in July.
    • Haiti – Join a VIM team to work in Haiti in 2011.
  9. Church Building and Grounds Care

    • Unlock and lock building Sunday mornings – Serve on a schedule to open the building on Sunday mornings and lock the building after services
    • Adopt a flower bed – Be responsible for the maintenance on at least one of the flower beds.
    • Equipment/Furniture breakdown – Be available for the setup/take down of various events in the Family Life Center
    • Pick up lawn litter – Serve on a schedule to pick up litter on the parking lot and lawn
    • General maintenance of building – We have numerous small repairs that occur on a regular basis such as changing air filters, etc.
    • Participate in clean up day – Participate in a church wide seasonal yard cleanup.
    • Serve on Kitchen Maintenance Team – Serve on the Team that maintains the kitchen and keeps supplies available.
  10. Evangelism/Hospitality Ministries – Lead the congregation in radical hospitality. Evangelism reaches out to others to introduce them to Jesus, invites people to come, welcomes them once they are here, thanks them for coming, invites them to return, then incorporates them into the church family.

    • Serve on Evangelism Team – This team plans our evangelism activities, coordinates and maintains the volunteer schedule.
    • Parking lot greeter - Stand outside before church to welcome visitors and give directions
    • Greeter – Commit to serve one month to welcome people as they come to worship
    • First Time Visitor Follow-up – Commit to be on the team that delivers first time gifts within 24 hours of the first visit.
    • Follow up with visitors – Contacts the office each Monday to receive the visitor names and calls each one or sends a card.
    • Assemble visitor packets – Put together a visitor welcome for first time visitors. Make sure the greeters have an adequate supply each week.
    • Invite a friend to Church – Commit to invite five people to church this year
    • Learn to share my faith – I am interested in learning to more effectively share my faith with others.
    • Hospitality Team – Serve on the team that provides coffee/refreshments on Sunday morning
    • Clean-Up – Clean coffeepots after Sunday morning service
  11. Discipleship Ministries – Lead the Congregation in intentional faith development. The Discipleship Team is responsible for the curriculum, teacher training and support, and classes that help us grow in our faith.

    • Discipleship Team – Serve on the team that offers planning, guidance, and support for the various classes offered for faith development.
    • Sunday school – I will receive my intentional faith development through Sunday School classes.
    • Wednesday night Bible Study – I will attend the Bible or discipleship study offered on Wednesday evening
    • Short Term Classes – I am interested in short term, small group classes that may be specifically directed toward certain aspects of faith development. Please check your area of interest.
      • Financial Peace University – Twelve week courses on the management of our financial resources. The study offered is from Dave Ramsey, a Christian financial advisor.
      • Men’s Bible Study – Studies specifically targeted towards men's issues.
      • Kingdom People – Two six weeks courses designed to help you define God’s purpose for your life.
      • Other. 6-12 weeks courses on various subjects. Please check all areas of interest.

  12. Administrative & Office Help

    • Be an Office Angel – Assist in various tasks as needed.
    • Answer phones when secretary unavailable – Help answer phones when the secretary(s) is out of town or on vacation
    • Sunday Morning Phone Angel – be one of our volunteers that answers phone during the Sunday morning services.
    • Assist in mailings – The newsletter is sent out every other week plus we have additional congregational mailings throughout the year
    • Count Sunday offering – Help count the Sunday offering or serve as a backup when the regular counters are unavailable.
  13. Young Adult Ministry

    • Serve on a Young Adult ministries team – serve on a team that will plan and implement studies and activities for college aged adults
    • Help lead college Bible Study

    • Chaperone college mission trip – Wesley Foundation has spring mission projects that often need adult assistance.
    • Driver for college mission trip – Wesley Foundation needs drivers for their spring mission trips.
    • Host Young Adult Fellowship in my home – Help plan and coordinate fellowship events for young adults in their twenties.
  14. Worship Ministries – Lead the congregation in passionate worship. The Worship Team works with the pastor to plan worship that connects people to God through the Holy Spirit. This includes our weekly services plus special services and events for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, and Pentecost.

    • Serve on the Worship Team – Serve on the team that helps plan, implement, and evaluate worship.
    • Usher – Serve on a monthly schedule to provides services during the morning worship service.
    • Lay reader – Reader for Scripture or various readings during the worship service.
    • Acolyte – Serve as an acolyte for morning worship.

    • Altar Guild - Prepare sanctuary and Family Life Center for worship services by the appropriate rotation of banners and liturgical colors, the restock of pew supplies, the preparation of communion elements and special seasonal decorations.

    • Operate sound system – Monitor the sound system on Sunday mornings

  15. Communications Ministries – This committee strives to build communication both within the congregation and with the outside world through advertising, printed materials, and web-based activities.

    • Serve on Communications Team – This team plans and implements the tools of communication so our members are well informed and the outside community is informed.
    • Write newsletter or Web articles – The newsletter is produced every two weeks. We need someone who is able to write articles regarding the various events of the church.
    • Photography/video – Take still or video pictures for a web gallery and online newsletter.
    • Assist with Web site – Assist in updating the website with the latest news, pictures, and information.
    • Maintain bulletin boards – Maintain general church bulletin boards
  16. Child Development Center

    • Substitute Teacher – Be available for working part-time in one of our classrooms.

    • Health Volunteer – Medical personnel to help take Blood Pressures on Sunday Mornings
    • Non-Medical Volunteer – Volunteer to assist on Blood Pressure Sunday with non-medical duties
    • CPR Instructors – Trained by the American Red Cross
    • First Aid Kits – Non-medical volunteers to monitor and restock First Aid kits.
    • Walk to Jerusalem Volunteer - Serve on a team that plans and coordinates congregational exercise program.

  19. Children’s Ministries

    • Children’s Ministry Team – This team provides planning and implementation for the faith development of children, ages 0-12.
    • Nursery Helper – Serve on a rotating schedule to assist in the nursery. Please indicate availability.

    • Rotation Workshop – Lead a workshop on The Riverwalk – Rotation Sunday School (5-week commitment)
    • Riverwalk Riverguide – Serve as a guide with one class in Rotation Sunday School.

    • Workshop Coordinator – Help gather supplies used for one of the six workshops.

    • Teach/help with Vacation Bible school – VBS is usually held in the summer Monday-Friday.
    • Provide snacks – Prepare snacks for various children’s activities.
