The words of Jesus found in John 14-17 are some of the most poignant and pressing for us as people of faith. This section of the Gospel of John is called the Farewell Discourse. The disciples are preparing to carry on Jesus’ teachings and ministry without him, and so Jesus offers them words of comfort and hope. Though they are Jesus’ last words spoken to his disciples before his death in the Gospel of John, they are some of the first words we should pay attention to as we seek to live as faithful disciples. Throughout July, we’ll be examining these words of Jesus and what they have to say to us in a time of transition in the life of Cabot UMC.
